Banana Bunchy Top Virus (BBTV)

Presence on Molokai:  Contained but widespread within the areas of Kualapu’u, Ho’olehua, and Pala’au. More recently detected in Maunaloa.

* BBTV has not yet been detected in East Molokai *

MoMISC intervention: BBTV is not a priority target for eradication. While MoMISC’s field response and control for BBTV have been scaled back, public awareness and education efforts continue.

How can you help stop the spread of BBTV on Molokai?

1: Do not move banana plants, plant parts, or planting materials such as mulch from one area of the island to another.

2: Learn to identify signs and symptoms and inspect your plants often.

3: Spread the word and help to educate family, friends, and neighbors.

4: Control aphids and destroy infected plants.
